MARK YOUR CALENDARS

Once again we have two events planned for this year. Mark your calendars and get ready to have some fun while supporting two very worthwhile causes.

  •  August 9 – 8th Annual Keep On Climbing Golf Tournament for Wounded Warriors – to support Wounded Warriors Canada’s investment in service dog programs around the country to assist soldiers suffering from PTSD.
  • October 2 – 6th Annual Education for Africa Variety Show – To support Plan Canada’s Tanzania Sanitation Project – the federal government is matching funds raised 8:1

We are starting to gather great door prizes and silent auction items. If you know of anyone who can help out, please contact us. Hole sponsorships for the golf tournament are $75.

We hope to see you there.

2015 In Review

2015 was a fantastic year for fundraising and for me personally as an author.

We held our 7th annual golf tournament in August. Funds raised at the first five went to Plan Canada to help with various projects in Africa, You can read more about those projects in the Events section. We changed focus for the golf tournament to Wounded Warriors Canada in 2014 because we felt there was a real need to help our Vets and because we think the program we are raising money for is really helping our wounded soldiers. This year we raised $3400, which will go towards Wounded Warriors’ investment in the service dog program to help soldiers suffering with PTSD.

We held our 5th Annual Education for Africa Variety Show in October and raised $3365 for Plan Canada to go towards a much-needed sanitation project in Tanzania. With federal government matching, it becomes $30,285!!

We would like to thank everyone involved for helping us to reach our fundraising goals and then some.

I was very happy to be invited to take part in the Gananoque Literary Festival in May. I shared the stage with the likes of Peter C. Newman and Terry Fallis and it was a big thrill. I never dreamed that my writing would give me that opportunity but there it was. It was an honour to participate.

There were a number of book signings and events throughout the year but it was topped off in December when my humorous travel memoir, I Guess We Missed the Boat, became a Bestseller in a few travel related categories on Amazon Kindle.

So what about 2016? We have more fundraising planned. We can’t stop now! I plan to issue a newsletter early in the new year, which will feature two chapters of my new book, tentatively called “A Perilous Decision.” The book is scheduled to be released in May.

Thank you to everyone for your interest! None of it would be possible without you. Happy New Year! I hope 2016 is your best year yet.

$3,365 Raised

We are very pleased to announce that the amount raised at the 5th annual Education for Africa Variety Show was $3,365. With the federal government matching, $30,285 will be going to the project. Thank you again to our performers, donors and everyone who attended the event for making the afternoon such a great success.

5th Annual Education for Africa Variety Show

It’s that time of year again for our 5th Annual Education for Africa Family Variety Show at Greenfields Pub & Eatery on October 18 at 1:30.

We are delighted to announce the lineup for this year’s show. Check this out:

Trevor Finlay – Nashville Singer/Songwriter
Chris Pilsworth – Canada’s Amazement Specialist
Paul Imeson and Susan Johnson – Two of Ottawa’s favorite musicians
Cayne Kitagawa – Up and coming Ottawa musician/actor

Our host for the event will be Teri Loretto, CBC Climatologist and an Actress/Director

Does it get any better than this? Nope! We think not. And it’s all to help Plan Canada fund a sanitation project in Tanzania. You can see all that plus participate in a silent auction, 50/50 and door prizes at Greenfields Pub & Eatery for only $25. It’s a family show so kids 12 and under are admitted free if accompanied by an adult.

The federal government is matching everything we raise 8:1!!!!!

Successful Tournament

I would like to thank everyone who played a role in our 7th annual Keep On Climbing golf tournament for Wounded Warriors on August 11. Whether you played, volunteered, sponsored a hole or donated a silent auction item, you helped make the event a success and we are very grateful. We are still tallying the numbers, but about $3,400 was raised. That’s $1,000 more than last year!! We will make a small donation to Canadian Canine, the training academy from which our guest speaker Shawna Church Roy and her service dog Bauer graduated, and the remainder will go to Wounded Warriors Canada.

Please take a minute to check out the photos at the link provided. Many thanks to Luna Chen and Larry Cooper for the photography services!
